For all the splendour in its world, it sees no boys, no women, no girls…
There is a place where the sexes are united. Where the sexes are impossible. Where the sexes have vanished. Welcome to the strange and beautiful world of The Man and Men.
For one hour, five instrumentalists and a coloratura soprano are entangled in an intimate spectacle of music, noise and movement. Soprano Ema Walton, ‘The Man’, rages through three and a half octaves of celebration, fascination and condemnation of masculine identity.
Composer and director Joshua Goodman has created a dark and beautiful realm combining the best of contemporary classical music, physical theatre and performance art. He says: 'When the noises of the world dissolve into a moment's silence there comes a music which is clear and realised. In my opera, I tell the story of one man, of every man, juggling the noises of his world to find that clarity.'
Performed daily by Britain’s newest and most exciting interdisciplinary music theatre company. North of England Concert Theatre: innovative contemporary music through diverse collaborations.
